In a quaint home in Aluva, former insurance employee-turned-artist Javan Chacko and his wife, Reena, have created a remarkable 16-foot long memorial honoring over 3,000 film technicians, primarily actors, who have graced the Malayalam film industry since the inception of the first Malayalam film, Vigathakumaran, in 1928.
The Genesis of ‘Chitrasradhanjali’
Crafted to resemble a film reel, this wood-framed artwork stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of Javan. Spanning approximately 29,000 hours of meticulous work, which translates to 18 years, this masterpiece showcases hand-painted images and photographs of those who have left a mark on Malayalam cinema.
A Tribute to the Departed Souls
Stepping into Javan’s studio/gallery, one is greeted by a flickering lamp symbolizing respect for the departed souls. The glass embossed work features portraits of iconic figures like PK Rosie and JC Daniel, paying homage to their immense contributions to the film industry.

Using a unique technique reminiscent of glass painting and stained glass, Javan meticulously painted images referencing old photographs and sourced snapshots from the Malayalam film magazine, Nana.
