Google Photos Introduces AI-Powered Features for Enhanced User Experience
New AI-Based Features for Google Photos
Google Photos has rolled out new AI-based features aimed at organising and categorising photos for users. The new Photo Stack feature allows users to group similar shots together, reducing clutter in their photo libraries. Additionally, an AI-powered feature automatically categorises screenshots and documents into albums such as IDs, receipts, and event information. Users can also set reminders on specific images for easy retrieval at a later date.
The Photo Stacks Feature
The Photo Stacks feature automatically identifies and groups similar photos of the same subject taken within a short time frame, selecting a “top pick” that best captures the moment. Users have the option to manually select their own photo as a top pick and can modify or turn off the stacks at any time. This functionality is designed to keep users’ libraries organised and clutter-free.
Automatic Categorisation of Screenshots and Documents
Google Photos leverages AI to better identify and categorise screenshots and documents. Screenshots will now be grouped into albums like IDs, receipts, notes, recipes, menus, social, and event information. These albums can be accessed from the Search tab under the new Documents section, enabling users to quickly find what they need without scrolling through all their photos.
Setting Reminders within Google Photos
Google Photos now allows users to set reminders directly from within the app. This feature enables users to set reminders in their calendar based on screenshots of a ticket or a picture with text or date information. By clicking the “Set Reminder” option, Google Photos will send reminders based on the details in the screenshot.
Automatic Archiving of Screenshots and Documents
Users can automatically archive screenshots and documents after 30 days, hiding them from the main gallery while keeping them accessible from their dedicated albums.
Rollout of New Features
According to Google’s blog post, the new Photos features are currently rolling out to users on both Android and iOS platforms.
