Gemini AI expands image generation for users.

Google Unveils New Gemini App Features: Gems and Imagen 3 Capabilities

Google announced on Wednesday that Gemini apps will soon receive two exciting upgrades. The tech giant from Mountain View revealed that its in-house artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot is set to get the AI agent Gems and image generation capabilities of the recently launched Imagen 3 AI model. While Gems will be exclusive to paid Gemini users, Imagen 3 features will be available to all users, including those on the free tier, although some limitations may apply for free users in terms of image generation.

Gems Enhance Personalized AI Assistance

In a blog post, Google shared the integration of Gems and Imagen 3 into the Gemini apps. Previously showcased at Google I/O, Gems have already been rolled out and are accessible to Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users. Gems act as mini chatbot versions with a specialized dataset, allowing users to customize them for specific topics, thus enabling the AI to generate more precise information. Google described Gems as a tool to create an expert team to assist with projects, brainstorming, or perfecting social media captions.

Users can further refine Gem responses by adding specific instructions. Once available, users will also find pre-made Gems by Google, including Learning Coach, Brainstormer, Career Guide, Writing Editor, and Coding Partner. Gems will be accessible in multiple languages on desktop and mobile devices across over 150 countries.

Imagen 3: Innovative Image Generation Tool

Imagen 3, Google’s latest image generation AI tool, is another highlight coming to Gemini apps. It boasts the ability to create images in various styles such as Nikon DSLR, GoPro style, wide-angle lens, and more. Google mentioned that Imagen 3 can produce a range of visuals like photorealistic landscapes, textured oil paintings, or whimsical claymation scenes.

An essential feature of Imagen 3 is its capability to generate images of people, a feature previously removed due to biased and harmful image generation. To combat deepfake risks, Google has implemented built-in safeguards and utilized SynthID for watermarking AI-generated images to ensure authenticity.

While specifics were not provided, there are hints that Imagen 3 might offer inline editing of generated images, albeit restricted to text prompts. Google clarified that Imagen 3 will not support creating photorealistic identifiable individuals, minors, or excessively graphic content.

These advancements bring a new level of customization and creativity to Gemini users, enhancing their AI experience with personalized assistance and innovative image generation capabilities. As Google continues to push the boundaries of AI technology, Gemini users can look forward to more features and improvements in the future.
