The McDonald’s U19 Female Country Championships Set to Begin
The McDonald’s U19 Female Country Championships are gearing up for an exciting start on Tuesday, September 26th. This three-day carnival will feature matches taking place in Maitland, Wallsend, and Raymond Terrace, showcasing a mix of 40-over and T20 cricket. The competition will bring together eight teams, namely Central Coast, Central Northern, Greater Illawarra, Newcastle, North Coastal, Riverina, Southern Districts, and Western, as they compete for the coveted title.
Southern Districts Make Debut in the Championships
This year’s tournament will mark a significant milestone as the Southern Districts side participates for the first time since the restructuring of Country Zones. Paddy Moylan, Chair of the Southern Zone, expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s debut, stating, “It is an extremely exciting time for us as a new zone to field our first team. Our U19 female team is a seriously talented and impressive group. I have no doubt they will do themselves and the zone proud on and off the field.”
Opportunity for U19 NSW Country Selection
Aside from aiming for team success, players participating in the championships will also have their eyes set on securing a position in the U19 NSW Country side for the national championships. This presents a significant opportunity for these athletes to showcase their skills and potentially go on to greater honors in their cricket careers. Paul Marjoribanks, Chair of Country Cricket, highlighted the importance of these competitions, stating, “These competitions have proved that they are the pathway to greater honors. Only three years ago, NSW Breaker and now Australian player Phoebe Litchfield was playing in them. I wish all players the best of luck.”
