India Knocked Out of Women’s T20 WC as NZ Advances to Semifinals

India faced disappointment in the Women’s T20 World Cup as New Zealand secured a convincing 54-run win over Pakistan in Dubai on October 14, 2024, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2016. India’s hopes for a semifinal spot relied on a Pakistan victory with a lower Net Run-rate.

New Zealand Clinches Victory

Pakistan initially had a chance after restricting New Zealand to 110 for six in 20 overs. However, Pakistan’s batting faltered, and they were all out for 56 in just 11.4 overs, allowing White Ferns to progress to the semifinals with three wins in four Group A games.

Australia Claims Top Spot

Australia topped the group with eight points, while New Zealand secured second place with six points. India’s defeat to New Zealand in their opening match proved costly, denying them a spot in the final four.

Spinner Amelia Kerr took three wickets, but it was the seamers Lea Tahuhu (1/8) and Eden Carson (2/7) who paved the way for New Zealand’s victory. Pakistan needed to achieve the target in less than 12 overs to qualify, but they fell short of the mark.

Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers contained New Zealand to a modest total. Opening batters Suzie Bates (28) and Georgia Plimmer (17) provided a solid start, but Pakistani spinners, Omaima Sohail (1/14 in 4 overs) and Nashra Sandhu (3/18 in 4 overs), made a significant impact, taking crucial wickets and restricting runs through the middle overs.
