This highly coveted recognition celebrates the outstanding contributions of female scientists in Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
Nominations Open for 2025 L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science International Award
Interested and eligible candidates are encouraged to submit their applications to the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU) by July 1, 2024. The INCCU will then forward the nominations to the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, for further evaluation.
The 2025 edition of the awards will honor five exceptional scientific researchers who have made significant advancements in their respective fields. Each laureate will receive a prestigious award of 100,000 euros in recognition of their groundbreaking work.
UNESCO has invited scientists from all over the world to nominate deserving candidates for the 2025 International Awards. A distinguished international jury composed of eminent scientists will be responsible for selecting the final awardees.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the award, nominees must be recognized for their scientific excellence by the international scientific community. Active participation in scientific research is a key requirement for eligibility. Self-nominations and nominations by immediate family members will not be accepted. The award is designated for individuals only, and team nominations are not eligible.
The qualified nominators should hold positions such as heads of universities or scientific institutions, members of academies of Science, research chair holders, full professors, former laureates of the For Women in Science International Awards, and must possess a minimum of a PhD in Science.
History of the Programme
The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards program was inaugurated in 1998 with the aim of recognizing and celebrating the exceptional achievements of women in the field of science. Over the years, the program has honored 132 outstanding female scientists, seven of whom have been recipients of the prestigious Nobel Prize.
