The victims were identified as Sangeetha, 40, and her daughters, N. Darshini, 17, and N. Keerthana, 10. They had gone to the canal on Monday evening for a routine activity.

According to police reports, Sangeetha was washing clothes while her daughters were taking a bath in the canal. At the time, the canal was receiving 2,000 cusecs from the Bhavanisagar dam for irrigation purposes. Suddenly, the children were washed away, and Sangeetha’s attempts to save them proved futile. Villagers witnessed the tragic incident and immediately raised an alarm for help.

Recovery Efforts

The Kadathur police, in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Services personnel, conducted extensive search operations. The bodies of the girls were eventually found at Millmedu area around 12:30 a.m. and were promptly shifted to the Government Hospital in Gobichettipalayam. Subsequently, Sangeetha’s body was retrieved on Tuesday afternoon and transported to the hospital for further procedures.
