Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP) Prepare to Launch Joint Committee Against YSR Congress
TDP and JSP, two prominent political parties in Andhra Pradesh, have announced their plans to join forces in an effort to challenge the ruling YSR Congress Party. The parties will establish a joint action/coordination committee to strategize their fight against Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government.
TDP leaders are currently regrouping after the arrest of their leader, N. Chandrababu Naidu, in a skill development scam case. Meanwhile, JSP president Pawan Kalyan is gearing up to embark on the fourth leg of his Varahi Yatra on October 1. This time, he will tour Avanigadda, Kaikalur, Machilipatnam, and Pedana constituencies in the undivided Krishna district.
The formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) between TDP and JSP was announced by TDP State party president K. Atchannaidu a few days ago. The committee will work together to chart their future course of action against the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government.
At present, the TDP’s top priority is securing bail for Chandrababu Naidu, who has been in Rajamahendravaram central prison since September 11. With no respite in sight from the courts, the TDP is desperately seeking ways to salvage the situation for their leader and the party as a whole.
However, the TDP is also grappling with another significant concern – the impending arrest of its national general secretary, Nara Lokesh, in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road alignment case. Lokesh recently announced his intention to resume his Yuva Galam Padayatra from Razole in the Konaseema district on September 29. This padayatra was suspended on September 9 when Chandrababu Naidu was arrested at Nandyal. It remains to be seen whether Lokesh will proceed with his padayatra, as the CID has implicated him as A-14 in the IRR alignment case and filed a memo to that effect in the Vijayawada ACB Court.
On the other hand, Pawan Kalyan, who surprised many with his decision to form an alliance with the TDP immediately after meeting Chandrababu Naidu in jail two weeks ago, is yet to take a significant step forward. The presence of Nara Lokesh and Nandamuri Balakrishna during this meeting added to the surprise factor.
When it comes to key issues, the TDP-JSP combine plans to highlight alleged electoral roll manipulation, the government’s failures, and issues related to land, sand, and liquor mafia.
As of now, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not factoring into the equation. The party’s central leadership has yet to decide whether to align with TDP and JSP or fight the 2024 elections independently.
