Hanloom Sari Walk in Visakhapatnam

In preparation for National Handloom Day, Visakhapatnam is gearing up for an exciting three-kilometre sari walk along Beach Road. The event, organized by The Spirit of Vizag Society, aims to celebrate India’s rich handloom heritage and promote walking among women. Participants of all ages are invited to don their handloom saris and join the walk, starting at 6 am from opposite Viswapriya Function Hall.

The Cultural Celebration

The inaugural edition of the sari walk last year saw a massive turnout of 7,000 women. Y Ch Dorababu, president of The Spirit of Vizag Society, hopes that this year’s event will not only shine a light on the challenges faced by the handloom industry but also support handloom workers by showcasing their craftsmanship and products. Additionally, the event aims to encourage women to embrace walking as a simple and effective way to stay healthy, blending fitness with cultural celebration.

Registration Details

Registration for the sari walk is free for participants below 18 years and above 75 years of age. For others, the fee is ₹100. All registered participants will receive certificates. In conjunction with the sari walk, The Spirit of Vizag Society is organizing a trade fair on August 3 and 4 at the Gadiraju Palace.
