Justin Bieber Performs at the Sangeet Ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant
Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber wowed some of India’s biggest celebrities at a lavish wedding celebration organized for the son of Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s wealthiest man. Bieber, known for his early rise to fame as a teenage heartthrob, joined a star-studded guest list flying in for the wedding festivities of Anant Ambani, Mukesh Ambani’s younger son, and his fiancée Radhika Merchant.
Star-Studded Wedding Festivities
The childhood friends, Bieber and Merchant, both 29 years old, are scheduled to tie the knot in a three-day Hindu ceremony beginning on July 12. Bieber made headlines as he arrived in Mumbai wearing an oversized pink T-shirt and a bucket hat after flying in from Los Angeles.
During the wedding celebration, Bieber treated the VIP guests to a live performance, including his 2015 hit song “Sorry,” as captured in videos shared on social media. Notable celebrities present at the event included Bollywood star Salman Khan and former Indian cricket captain M.S. Dhoni.
Extravagant Wedding Festivities
Reports in the Indian media suggested that Bieber was rumored to have been paid a generous sum of up to $10 million for his performance at the event. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant had already hosted two grand parties leading up to the main wedding event, including a three-day gala in Gujarat state earlier in the year.
Rihanna recently graced one of the pre-event ceremonies with her performance, attended by luminaries such as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Ivanka Trump, daughter of former US president Donald Trump. Additionally, in June, the couple embarked on a four-day Mediterranean cruise where singer Katy Perry entertained guests at a masquerade ball in Cannes. Other entertainers, including the Backstreet Boys, US rapper Pitbull, and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, also provided musical interludes.
Costly Wedding Affairs
Anant’s father, Mukesh Ambani, renowned for his extravagant celebrations, had previously hosted the most expensive wedding in India for his daughter in 2018. The event, estimated to cost $100 million, featured a performance by US singer Beyoncé. Mukesh Ambani, aged 67 and the chairman of Reliance Industries, boasts a fortune exceeding $113 billion, ranking as the 11th wealthiest individual globally according to the Forbes billionaires list.
Furthermore, Mukesh Ambani is a prominent figure in Indian politics, known for his close ties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He inherited a robust industrial empire encompassing oil, gas, and petrochemicals, which he expanded into a commercial powerhouse with interests in retail, telecommunications, and ownership of an Indian Premier League cricket team.
Radhika Merchant, on the other hand, hails from a prominent family in the pharmaceutical industry.
