Aryamba Sriram Excels in Classical Dance Performance
Aryamba Sriram, a talented classical dancer, captivated the audience at The Music Academy HCL concerts with her recent performance. She chose to begin with the enchanting composition ‘Amba neelambari’ by Ponniah Pillai in raga Nilambari, a departure from the traditional alarippu and mallari. Choreographed by the renowned Leela Samson, this piece set a captivating tone for the evening.
Aryamba’s Skillful Interpretation of Emotions Through Dance
The performance showcased Aryamba’s ability to express emotions through dance with finesse and grace. She effortlessly portrayed the beauty of Amba, the goddess with lotus-shaped eyes, in a blend of subtlety and dramatic flair. Highlighting Popular Compositions with Abhinaya Prowess
Aryamba’s rendition of the ragamalika varnam, depicting a Khandita nayika besotted by Shiva, demonstrated her exceptional abhinaya prowess. The piece by Dhandayuthapani Pillai allowed Aryamba to showcase her skills in both nritta and abhinaya, captivating the audience with finesse and artistry.
Contrasting Emotions Portrayed Through Dance
The performance also featured two compositions that highlighted contrasting emotions portrayed by the heroines. The Kshetrayya padam ‘Emani telupudu’ in raga Anandabhairavi depicted the nayika’s pangs of separation and her memories with Venugopala. Aryamba skillfully conveyed the array of emotions in this piece, establishing the sthayi bhava of the nayika with subtlety and detail.
In the Saveri raga javali ‘Mutta vadhura’, Aryamba portrayed the mental turmoil of a nayika reacting to her man’s infidelity. Choreographed by Bragha Bessel, this piece showcased Aryamba’s versatility and emotive depth in portraying complex emotions through dance.
Enthralling Conclusion with a Surutti Thillana
The performance concluded with a Surutti thillana by Oothukadu Venkatakavi, choreographed by K. P. Rakesh. Accompanied by melodic singing by Srikanth Gopalakrishnan, rhythmic beats of the mridangam by Kiran Pai, soulful violin by K.P. Nandini, and melodious flute by Muthukumar, Aryamba’s performance was enriched by the talented ensemble.
