Ninasam Tirugata Draws Massive Audience at ‘Conversation with the Arts’ Event
Many renowned writers and intellectuals gathered at Heggodu in Sagar taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka, to participate in the annual ‘Conversation with the Arts’ event organized by Ninansam. The five-day program showcased two compelling plays – Malathi Madhava and Ankada Parade – performed by the skilled artists of Ninasam Rangashikshana Kendra at the Shivarama Karantha Rangamandira. Malathi Madhava: A Tale of Love, Separation, and Emotions
On the inaugural day of the event, Akshara K.V. of Ninasam presented a Kannada adaptation of the Sanskrit play Malathi Madhava by Bhavabhuti. The narrative revolved around themes of love, romance, separation, horror, and human emotions encapsulating the love story of Malathi and Madhva. The play, enriched with music and compelling performances, captivated the audience, who appreciated the poignant dialogues and musical renditions.

Ankada Parade: A Thought-Provoking Exploration of Age and Acting
The following day featured Ankada Parade, a Kannada rendition of a Marathi play by Abhiram Bhadkamkar. Jayant Kaikini’s translation and Vidyanidhi Vanarase’s direction brought to life the story of senior citizens residing in an old-age home, delving into their lives and struggles.
Of particular interest was the exploration of acting theories within the play, where a youth, aspiring to be a theatre actor, assumed his father’s identity in the old-age home, leading to intriguing performances within the performance. The script kept the audience engaged, drawing appreciation for its presentation and translation.
A Legacy of Theatrical Excellence: Ninasam’s 75th Year Celebration
Established in 1949, Ninasam, or Sri Neelakanteswara Natyaseva Sangha, is marking its 75th anniversary this year. Since 1985, the organization has been hosting Tirugata, taking theatrical productions to different parts of Karnataka annually. Additionally, Ninasam has been hosting the Samskruthi Shibira event since 1990, now rebranded as ‘Conversation with the Arts,’ showcasing diverse art forms followed by engaging discussions.
The current edition of the event has attracted a plethora of writers, poets, and intellectuals from across Karnataka and beyond, promising an enriching cultural exchange that culminates on October 6.
