Challenges Faced by the Vilankombai Tribal Settlement
Located within the Kongarpalayam Panchayat in T.N. Palayam block, the Vilankombai tribal settlement grapples with the impact of water flow from four streams. This significantly hinders the movement of vehicles, particularly during the rainy season. As a result, the pickup van that transports students to nearby schools is often rendered inoperable, affecting the education of 50 students from Vilankombai and Kembanur tribal settlements.
MP’s Response to the Community’s Appeal
Tiruppur MP K. Subbarayan recently visited the hamlets and engaged in discussions with the residents. In response to their urgent appeal for a motorable road, the MP proposed a 4 km alternative route to address the persistent issue. This proposal received overwhelming support from the community.
Proposed Solution
In an effort to expedite the process, the MP instructed the Block Development Office at T.N. Palayam to assess the pathway and develop a comprehensive proposal for the construction of a road. He emphasized the importance of obtaining less than one hectare of forest land for this project, affirming that no trees need to be cut for the development of the proposed road.
“Construction of four bridges across the streams is not viable due to the high costs involved. However, the construction of a 4 km road offers a practical and sustainable solution,” added MP Subbarayan, highlighting the feasibility of this approach.
Next Steps and Community Impacts
Upon the completion of the proposal, the MP plans to seek approval from the District Forest Officer for the acquisition of forest land for this development initiative. The construction of this road will not only facilitate easier access for the tribal settlement but also ensure uninterrupted access to education for the students in the area.
